North Vancouver’s Sushi MAHANA, renowned for its distinctive Kyushu-style omakase, is excited to announce the launch of DANRAN by MAHANA, an elevated omakase at-home offering crafted to bring people together. Inspired by the Japanese concept of “danran” (団欒), which emphasizes connection and joy through shared meals, DANRAN transforms the experience of dining into a harmonious occasion, even within the comfort of home.

DANRAN is the vision of owner Yuki Aida and Sushi Master Chef Hiroshi Hoshiko, who share a commitment to quality and detail that is the hallmark of Sushi MAHANA’s in-restaurant experience. “We wanted to create something meaningful,” says Aida. “DANRAN is about more than great food. It’s about reconnecting over a meal, where every detail—from the fish to the cedar box—elevates that moment.”

The omakase at-home experience captures the essence of fine dining, with each nigiri box meticulously prepared to showcase seasonality, sustainability, and the precise artistry Sushi MAHANA is known for. “Kyushu-style sushi is about enhancing the natural flavours of the fish with thoughtful ingredients. With DANRAN, we’ve captured that spirit for everyone to enjoy, no matter where they are,” explains Chef Hoshiko.

Each DANRAN box offers a blend of tradition and innovation, featuring carefully selected seasonal fish, artisanal rice, and curated accompaniments. Every detail, from the elegant cedar packaging to the presentation of the nigiri, has been crafted with intention. The cedar boxes, which are both beautiful and sustainable, are reusable and biodegradable, reflecting the restaurant’s commitment to eco-conscious practices.

The DANRAN collection includes the Premium Nigiri Box, a 24-piece selection showcasing seven varieties of seasonal fish imported from Japan, along with Sushi MAHANA’s signature tamagoyaki. Priced at $250, and designed to serve two, this offering brings the restaurant’s omakase quality directly to the home. For a more expansive meal, the optional Premium Appetizer Box is available for $80. This add-on includes an expertly chosen assortment of seasonal small plates, perfectly complementing the nigiri and serving three to four guests when paired with the main box.

To further enhance the DANRAN experience, patrons can opt for Sake Pairing, a curated selection of premium sake designed to elevate the overall dining experience. Available options include the fruity Toko Junmai Ginjo Genshu, the crisp and dry Gassan Hojun Karakuchi Junmai, and two rare offerings from Hirakoh Sake Brewery in Miyagi: the floral Hitakami Yasuke Junmai Daiginjo and the refined Hitakami Kuro Nakadori Junmai Daiginjo, which are produced in exclusive batches of fewer than 2,000 bottles annually. These selections, priced between $90 and $400, are thoughtfully matched to enhance the nuanced flavours of the sushi, providing a seamless blend of tradition and indulgence.

DANRAN by MAHANA is available for pre-order exclusively on Tock, limited to six per day, ensuring the highest level of quality and care. Same-day orders must be placed by noon, with pick-up available from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Larger orders for special occasions are available upon request.

As the holiday season approaches, DANRAN by MAHANA presents a perfect gift idea for loved ones. This new collection invites customers to savour premium sushi at home, creating an opportunity to gather, celebrate, and enjoy an extraordinary meal—whether for an intimate evening or a special occasion.
