Named after the designer’s Paris boutique on Quai Malaquais, the scent translates the tactile pleasure of silk into an olfactory language: fluid, refined and sensuous. To accentuate the bottle’s beauty, Soie Malaquais now features a new, exceptional design, imagined by artist Bouke de Vries, with a delicate gold pattern gilded atop the porcelain.
Composed by Marie Salamagne, Soie Malaquais is an echo to the personal universe of Dries Van Noten. After visiting his garden, she developed a fragrance built around the comforting richness of chestnut, wrapped in the softness of silk. “The texture of Dries’s silks seemed to merge with the skin,” she recalls. “I wanted to translate that sensation into scent.” The chestnut accord unfolds with gourmand notes of vanilla, cocoa, and Peru balsam, while the silk accord shimmers through aldehydic rose, blackcurrant, and cardamom. As the fragrance encounters the skin, a dialogue between substance and lightness, warmth, and sheen unfolds.
The limited-edition bottle revisits the idea of impossible combinations that run throughout the fragrance collection. Following the initial design by Bouke de Vries and produced by Atelier Thiery in Paris, the gilding involves applying a thin layer of gold atop the porcelain – a process that celebrates craftsmanship as a gesture of beauty. This lustrous treatment then juxtaposes with the blue naturalistic pattern, creating a decorative effect that resonates with both tradition and modernity. As the grooved lines differ from one bottle to the next, each of the 100 pieces is unique.
