H&M is adding another design partnership to its roster, this time with WARDROBE.NYC, the New York label known for turning wardrobe staples into a kind of quiet luxury. The collaboration, launching August 6 in select stores and on hm.com, distills the brand’s decade-long point of view into one tightly edited capsule.

Who’s Behind It

WARDROBE.NYC was founded by stylist and editor Christine Centenera alongside designer Josh Goot. Since launching, the label has built its reputation on archetypal, elevated basics — the kind of pieces designed to disappear into a wardrobe rather than dominate it. For this H&M collaboration, the duo pulled from their own archives to shape a collection rooted in that same philosophy: understated, considered, and built to last.

Goot describes the project as an extension of that mindset, saying the goal was a capsule that felt both essential and current, true to WARDROBE.NYC’s long-standing approach to dress.

What’s In the Collection

The lineup leans into archetypal urban dressing, split between two registers. On the tailored side: wool coats, blazers, and structured skirts in a restrained, timeless palette. On the casual side: washed denim, padded bomber jackets, hoodies, and fluid drawstring trousers that soften the formality without losing the polish.

Tying it all together is a run of versatile layering pieces meant to function as connective tissue — the idea being that everything in the collection should work with everything else, and just as easily with what’s already in your closet.

Centenera frames the collection’s goal simply: these are meant to be staples people build around, mixing new pieces with what they already own rather than treating the capsule as a self-contained look.

Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s Creative Advisor and Head of Design for Womenswear, points to the thoughtfulness in the construction itself — she notes that the shapes are considered enough that you can sense how a piece will wear just by looking at it, the kind of garment built to stay in rotation for years, not seasons.

The Takeaway

This isn’t a collection chasing trend cycles — it’s a bet on longevity. In an industry increasingly saturated with fast turnarounds, H&M x WARDROBE.NYC reads as an argument for fewer, better pieces that actually earn their place in a closet.
