Want a healthy glow this summer? Dr. Ammar Mahmoud, skincare expert at Alinea Medical Spa has revealed ten unusual yet effective skincare tips and tricks to help boost your skin health.

1. Chamomile Tea Cold Compress

Using chamomile tea as ice cubes to soothe your skin can reduce inflammation and calm irritated skin. The cold compress constricts blood vessels, helping to decrease redness and puffiness. Simply brew chamomile tea, freeze it in an ice tray, and gently rub the cubes over a freshly cleansed face.

2. Honey and Cinnamon Spot Treatment

You don’t have to invest in an expensive spot treatment to reduce the redness and size of blemishes. A mixture of honey and cinnamon creates a powerful antibacterial paste that can combat acne-causing bacteria. Apply a small amount to blemishes before bed and rinse off in the morning for the best results.

3. Papaya Peel Exfoliation

The enzymes in papaya peels naturally exfoliate dead skin cells, promoting a brighter complexion. Gently rub the inside of a papaya peel on your face, leave it for 10 minutes, then rinse off for smoother skin.

4. Banana Peel for Skin Hydration

Banana peels are rich in antioxidants and moisture, and rubbing the inside of a banana peel on dry areas can hydrate the skin and reduce visible signs of aging. Leave the residue on for 15 minutes before washing off.

5. Oatmeal Bath for Skin Conditions

Adding colloidal oatmeal to your bath can alleviate symptoms of skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis, including itching and irritation. Soak for 15-20 minutes before gently rinsing away for optimal results.

6. Potato Slices for Dark Circles

Raw potato contains catecholase, an enzyme that can lighten skin under the eyes. Place chilled potato slices on your eyes for 15 minutes to reduce dark circles and puffiness.

7. Green Tea Steam Facial

Steaming your face with green tea can open up pores and infuse antioxidants into the skin. Boil water with green tea leaves, pour it into a bowl, and let your face hover over the steam for 5-10 minutes, covering your head with a towel to trap the steam.

8. Turmeric and Yogurt Mask

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties, and when combined with yogurt, it creates a nourishing face mask. Apply the mixture for 10 minutes to reduce redness and brighten skin.

9. Apple Cider Vinegar Toner

Diluted apple cider vinegar can balance the skin’s pH levels and act as a natural toner. Mix one part vinegar with two parts water and apply with a cotton ball after cleansing, making sure to avoid sensitive areas.

10. Egg White Pore Strips

Egg whites can tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of pores. Apply a thin layer of egg white to your nose, place a tissue over it, add another layer of egg white and let it dry before peeling off to remove blackheads naturally.

Dr. Ammar Mahmoud, skincare expert at Alinea Medical Spa, adds:

“With social media and skincare influencers promoting a wide range of health and beauty products, many people turn to expensive products to tackle common concerns like dark circles, visible pores, and dull, tired skin.

“However, some at-home remedies can be just as effective and far more budget-friendly. As long as you’re mindful of potential skin reactions or allergies before trying a DIY skincare recipe – and follow expert advice – we’d recommend exploring these unique tips to help beat your winter skincare blues.”
