With the start of the World Cup, who isn’t thinking about sportswear? Adidas may have realized this with yet another lineup of jaw dropping collaborations for 2014.
The popularity of Nike is ever growing especially with the Nike Frees, however, the difference between the two are Nike only collaborates with athletes. Adidas recruits artists and fashion designers, perhaps putting them in the forefront of fashion forward sportswear.
The roster of designers with Adidas is impressive to say the least, especially with their newest collaborations with Pharrell, as well as Kayne West.
In the 1980’s Run DMC made a collection with Adidas, following that Missy Elliot joined the sports brand in the 1990’s. The fashion designers Jeremy Scott and Yohji Yamamoto started the Adidas Y3 collection 11 years ago and are still designing it to this day.
Some other designers that have worked with the brand in the past few years are Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Stella McCartney, Opening Ceremony and Topshop. Rick Owens dressed his dancers (who were also his models), in Adidas sneakers for his Spring 2014 runway show. Raf Simons has designed 8 new styles with Adidas, all varying in style. Stella McCartney has been designing for the brand since 2004 and creates sportswear that any women would want to wear. She has fused her beautiful and unique creations with a sports brand into something Adidas has never done before. Topshop’s recent line with the brand was a fun twist on simple sports clothing, a hoodie with the Adidas symbol in floral, or a tracksuit in floral with the white stripes down the sides. The newest fashion designer to join the Adidas train is Mary Katrantzou. Her eclectic patterns will hopefully be seen all over the pieces she designs for the company.
Whether you usually don’t sport Adidas or sportswear in general, Adidas has something for everyone through their many collaborations!
