If you haven’t already heard, the Lone Star State is the place to be. You may think it’s too big, or too hot, or too far away. But once you make it to Austin – the creative capital of Texas – all other arguments will fall apart.

It might not be the prettiest state in the country, but it sure is full of fun.

The list of things you can do here is limited only by your imagination. There are plenty of things to do all year round but people come to Texas in the summertime because they can’t get enough of the fun, and you’ll want to be part of all that activity. Below are some of the great destinations this state has to offer:

1. Austin

2. Dallas/Ft Worth

3. Houston

4. San Antonio

5. Grapevine

6. El Paso

7. New Braunfels

Austin: A Creative Capital

If you’ve ever been to Austin, then you know that it’s the “Live Music Capital of the World”. That’s because Austin has more live music venues than any other city in the country. The live music scene is so big that not only does everyone come out once night falls but they get to listen to an impressive array of talented musicians at convenient times throughout their day.

Not only does live music attract a fun-loving, creative crowd, it’s a big tourism draw. Although there are other things to do in Austin besides music, once you’re here you’ll want to make sure you see some of the other fun things that go on. You may not have time to see everything but if you create an itinerary with something for all ages, you’re bound to have an enjoyable time.

Dallas/Ft Worth: Big City, Small Town Feel

Just two hours away from Austin and you’ve got a completely different vibe altogether. DFW has all the perks of a big city – shopping, dining, nightlife and more – with the charm of a small town. The downtown area is bustling with activity as people go from one place to the next. DFW is home to some major corporations, making it one of the fastest growing cities in the country. But even with all that development and economic success, it still maintains its smaller-town feel.

Houston: A Fun and Affordable Destination

One of Texas’ most diverse cities is Houston. Like DFW, Houston has something for everyone. You might have to travel a little further to get there, but it’s worth it. Not only are there great places to shop, eat and play but the weather is milder than the other parts of Texas and things are more affordable here than they are in Austin or Dallas. If you want to see the big city with a small town feel, Houston is for you.

San Antonio: The Most Authentic Mexican Food In The Country

Some of the best Tex-Mex food you’ve ever had can be found in San Antonio. You can eat well here in a short amount of time and not break the bank. Not only that but the culture is amazing. Many people visit San Antonio during their spring break when they head out to Mexico to enjoy these care-free days and nights.

Grapevine: See What Happened Here First

Grapevine is a great place to take your kids if they’re interested in seeing what happened first. They can see the first Wal-Mart, the first Dairy Queen, the first Wendy’s and many other historical attractions. It’s also a place where you can shop until you drop at Grapevine Mills Mall, one of the largest shopping centers in Texas.

You can find many restaurants, hotels, and plenty of things to do in Grapevine. If you want to make sure that you experience the local culture first-hand, this is the place for you.

El Paso: The Gateway To Mexico

Located just across the border from Mexico, El Paso, Texas is a great place to visit and see why people are making trips south of the border to shop and dine. If you’re not much of a shopper but would rather eat, then El Paso may be the right destination for you. There’s plenty of authentic Mexican food here to satisfy your craving. By the time you head back home, you’ll be as big a fan of this city as those who live there.

New Braunfels: A Small German Town In Texas

You’ll find historic charm here when you travel about an hour outside of San Antonio. When you visit here, you’ll feel like you’ve taken a step back in time. New Braunfels originated as a German settlement and retains its beautiful European architecture to this day. Make your reservation at the New Braunfels Angel Hotel for your stay in the area and enjoy friendly service that is second to none.
