Meet Mintier The first oil-based breath mint without bacteria-causing sugar alcohols

oil-based breath mint

Meet Mintier, the world’s first oil-based breath mint. According to the Canadian Dental Association, almost 25% of all Canadians suffer from bad breath. Did you know that a typical mint is made up of ⅔ sugar?! It’s basically just candy. Breath mints don’t solve the problem of stale or bad breath. In fact, they only add to it. How? Breath mints are typically 90% sugar and sugar alcohols, but sugar prolongs bad breath and continues to cause it since it feeds oral bacteria and makes bad breath even worse.

Mintier is free of sugar and sugar alcohols. It’s vegan, keto, all natural and sugar-free. It contains six ingredients: MCT8 Coconut Oil, Peppermint oil, lemon oil, clove oil and cinnamon oil.

The breath freshener is locally formulated and contains only premium ingredients, with hints of cinnamon and clove. Each package is complete with a dropper that looks like it’s from the beauty aisle instead of confectionery. Mintier gives you 120 servings of fresh breath per bottle and lasts up to 60 minutes.

Meet Jessica and Rhaelyn!

Mintier was inspired by bad coffee breath! In 2019, Sheppard and Gillespie were co-workers at Toronto-based company Clearco. In the fast-paced startup world, Jessica and Rhaelyn worked long hours and drank a lot of coffee. While the office had supplies of breath mints, Sheppard wanted to find something that was more effective.

Creating a sugar-free breath freshener is surprisingly difficult and not easily formulated. They engaged a food chemist but what they got back was a list of ingredients that were sugar alcohols, so Gillespie and Sheppard attempted to create their own recipe which is when they decided to experiment with MCT8 Coconut Oil. As they began to refine the idea, they prioritized making the product keto-friendly, vegan and made from clean ingredients. Mintier is the first oil-based breath mint and brings a sugar-free alternative to the market that lasts longer than sugar-based alternatives.
